Enemy patrols constantly weave across the surface of a planet, and if one spots you and raises the alarm before you can take it out, the aliens will launch a full-scale assault on your position. Friendly-fire is always on, and if you're wounded in battle, it's extremely difficult to get back on your feet without aid of a friend. If you’ve grown tired of Arrowhead’s Starship Troopers-aping blaster, then Magicka 2 is a solid alternative, but if you’ve yet to try either, go for Helldivers first. As part of the elite unit called the HELLDIVERS, players must work together to protect SUPER EARTH and defeat the enemies of mankind in an intense intergalactic war. Unlike the first game, the sequel is no longer a top-down shooter but instead is a third-person shooter. For starters, ammo-clips are tiny, and you can only acquire more ammunition by calling in drops from orbit. HELLDIVERS is a hardcore, cooperative, twin stick shooter. In May 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios announced a sequel titled Helldivers II. Helldivers is deliberately designed to be tough, unpredictable and panic-inducing. Nobody in my circles seems to remember Helldivers, the excellent top-down shooter that Magicka studio Arrowhead released in 2015. warhammer: martyr and prophecy are twin-stick top down shooters so kind of in the grimdark ballpark. Players are dropped via Hellpod onto the surface of a planet to complete several objectives, such as retrieving a black box recorder and carrying it to a specific location, clearing a minefield, activating anti-air missile arrays and performing geological surveys. the other games from the same distributor: Gauntlet and Magicka are good cooperative games but none is so great with Helldivers. This pastiche of Verhoeven's film, itself a rather effusive parody of All-American warfare, perfectly matches the insanity that accompanies a standard Helldivers mission.
